Our Introduction

I have been contemplating whether to do a travel blog for months now!
Like... do people still read these things nowadays?
And do people want to read about two young Aussie’s exploring Australia and living out of a car?

Who bloody knows! But after umming and ahhing (well just me asking Jasper a million times over), we figured we’ve got nothing to lose and if this inspires just one person to follow their dreams then it will all be worth it!

So here it goes..
An intro to the Salty Travellers!

We’re currently following our dream and exploring Australia’s incredible landscapes whilst living out of our beloved Troopy, Big Ol’ Bell. It’s just the three of us Monique, Jasper and our 2 year old Cavoodle, Bowie.

Jasper & I have been together for almost 10 years now and have just as much love for the ocean as we do for each other, hence the name ‘Salty travellers’.
Yep! we're even salty enough to get engaged underwater whilst snorkelling off the Gili Islands. While some would have probably begun to plan a wedding or buy a house at that stage in their life, we decided it wasn't the right time for us and felt that traveling needed to come first.

With both of us growing up in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, the ocean was always our backyard. We love everything from surfing, fishing and diving to hiking mountains and exploring waterfalls. We could spend hours hanging at the beach looking for rockpools, searching for caves or even just laying in the sand reading a book.  When it comes to Bowie, well he is the ultimate salty sea dog! He'll do just about anything to get in the water on a hot day or roll around in the sand like a crumbed sausage. He even loves to surf!

We spent a solid year wrapped up in work and managed to save enough money to fund our trip.  Working two jobs each and living on a budget lifestyle for an entire year was not something that was easy. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to be able to make this happen and looking back now, every bit of blood, sweat and tears was definitely worth it! Well maybe there was no blood.. but you get what I mean!

So after selling our cars and basically every last bit of furniture and piece of clothing that we owned, we packed up the car and set off on our journey around Australia! Now we have been traveling for more than 9 months and have driven over 30,000kms. Our adventures started in North Queensland 4x4ing the Telegraph Track on Cape York and slowly making our way down the East coast stopping into every beachy town on the map, all the way to Melbourne. We spent two months circumnavigating our way around Tasmania and from there we followed the Great Ocean Road into South Australia. After a month hanging on the South Australian coast we then crossed the Nullabor (a 1,675km trip alone) over into Esperance, Western Australia, which we are currently loving! We plan to slowly make our way up the West Coast for the coming cooler months in search of fun waves and beautiful beaches.

We have no idea what the future holds for us, or no idea when our money will run out.  Seriously, we don't even know where we'll end up living in the next year. And if it sounds a little daunting and exciting (or even crazy). Well, it is! But they’re the risks you take when you travel so we just have to  enjoy each day as it comes, learn as much as possible along the way and keep doing what we love, exploring!

So heres to more adventures and more blog posts about our travels!
Yewww!
